Screenplays:

Screenplays are the first, original plan for a film which:
  • Includes location, setting and time of a day
  • Introduce key characters and include a short description of who they are/what they              look like
  • Include key dialogue between characters and details of their actions and expressions
  • Include details of where the camera is in each scene

It is one of the most important roles which makes whoever reading it, imagine it actually happening. This is why it is so detailed. The length of it is supposed to equal 1 page for 1 minute of screenplay. After they show the screenplay to a company, they need information for funding, 'green light' and they decide on the actors. Then, they make the storyboard.

The role of screenwriters in the film 'Jaws':
After looking at the Jaws screenplay and the actual scene in Jaws, you can see a clear difference between the two. The screenplay went into great detail in what was to happen, however, we can tell they had to cut this out. One of the reasons for this might have been about time issues as there wouldn't have not been enough time. For example, on the screenplay it says Chrissie thinks it's Tom in the seas, however, in the film Chrissie knows that Tom is still on the beach. Also, on the screenplay, it says there will be a froth of a baby whirl-pool until we are sure it is over, this never happens.
